Point/Counterpoint: The Whole Chris and Rihanna Thing

Point, By Jay1

So I heard that Chris Brown was a no-show at the kids choice awards the other day and it occurred to me that not only do I not care, but I think that after all is said and done that Chris Brown should completely disappear into obscurity and never be heard from again.

Dead Chicks Who Could Catch One.

I'm going to be real with you; if time travel was a possibility I'd abuse the hell out of it. I'm not one of those people that's all "I'm going go back and kill Hitler as a child" because I'm 100% against killing children. And I won't move from that stance not even for Hitler. Not even for Rush Limbaugh.

I'm also not one of those people who's going to try to get a sports almanac from the future and use it in the past. Or is that the present? See that's why I hate time travel, because I always get confused. And that's why I'm using my time machine to score with dead chicks, before they kick it.

To Watch or Not To Watch...pt3

Note:Skip Serpico submitted this continued look at upcoming shows and the chance that he'll commit to them over a month ago and somehow it didn't get published. My bad. Here it is though:

So according to This Arrest Affidavit, 44 year old Vince Shlomi, better known as the annoying tool pitchman for ShamWow and Slap Chop mail order junk items, got arrested in South Beach on a felony battery charge.

Best. Video. Ever.

This is epic foolishness right here. The video quality. The lyrics. It's just brilliant. Dudes name is J Nash, just so you know. Remember it.

Busta Rhymes - Exclusive Ownership (Feat. E-40)

I'm a fan of Busta but I personally couldn't care less about E-40, I'm only posting this as a shout out to my peeps from Oakland.

Friday Face Off

At one point there were 2 orange cartoon cats, Heathcliff and Garfield. For some reason Heathcliff has completely vanished whereas his doppelganger “Garfield” (who didn’t even appear until 5 years after Heathcliff appeared) is still making books, Hollywood movies, Valentines Day cards and just generally lingering around as a timeless, pop culture icon of some sort and I can’t figure out why.

You could make the argument that the fact that Garfield has outlasted Heathcliff in that way makes him the defacto winner of their real life “face off”, but lets take a closer look.

Common x Kanye x Badu @ sxsw

Even though she's way to prone to getting knocked up, I still love Erykah Badu, I don't know what it is.

No Idea's Original

Usually when I see that a film is going to be made out of an already established property I get annoyed. When it's a movie based on a show or toy or something I really enjoyed as a kid I usually get pissed.

But when I found out that Spike Jonez, one of my favorite directors, was helping to make "Where The Wild Things Are", I just came to the conclusion that no idea is original and if people are willing to make a cool remake of something that already existed (and that I actually liked, and it comes out really cool, I can just shut up and enjoy it.

I used to hate h.i.m.

Nas is the best rapper (living or dead) and I got the surveillance tapes to prove it. But I must concede, Jay-Z is in his own lane and I've had hate in my heart for far too long. This is not meant to be an exercise in the differences between Nas and Jigga or anything of the like- think of it as more of an apology.

The Best Show That You're Not Watching - Damages

I'll admit it Damages is a tough sell. It's one of those slow burn shows (The Wire, Brotherhood) where gratification comes from the culmination of a season. The show's debut season featured some stellar acting by Glen Close (no surprise) and Ted Danson (huge surprise!).

You Know Why Death Wish II is Pretty Awesome?

The love that Fish & Spaghetti has for the most tragic moments of Paul Kersey's life is pretty well documented. So it should come as no surprise that I've also got love for Death Wish II where things go horribly astray. Again.

Twitter('s) For Dummies

Twitter is retarded.

I didn't understand it at first but now I'm pretty sure what it is. And it's dumb.

Intense 10 Seconds:Anthony Falcone

So the other day, I noticed that I had a TV jingle stuck in my head.

Which is odd because I can't even remember when I last heard a jingle at all, let alone one infectious enough to get stuck in my head. A few days later I heard the jingle and it occurred to me that not only was the jingle funny, and catchy, but actually kinda sorta brilliant in it's effectiveness. I thought that whoever made this up must be a really smart dude.

Morgan State University, Stand Up!

Ok, now sit back down.

What the hell was that? Congrats on winning the MEAC and all that, but that nationally televised, Thursday night blowout could have been a little more respectable if they had been able to hit just a few of the lay ups, free throws, and wide open 3 pointers that they missed. I went to Morgan, so I was excited to see them play, and while I didn't expect them to win, I definitley expected to see a team hit a couple buckets. That game was brutal. Oh well, there's always next year, and they really did represent in the MEAC division, so thanks Morgan State. Nice try.

Oh, and also this happened:

A Side of Ketchup - United States of Tara

I wasn't sure about this show.

First off there was a bit of hype around it, and hype usually turns me off. I mean it's a show that's exec produced by Steven Speilberg, who handpicked Diablo Cody to flesh out an idea he had. Those a couple of big names right there.

Plus the premise seemed a bit out-there. A housewife with multiple personalities? How in the hell could that be pulled off?

Kid Genius?

I saw the above clip of the 7 year old boy who allegedly has an IQ over 10 points higher than Albert Einstien the other day and was really impressed.

For about a minute.

Obama Can Get You Paid (Pt.3)

You've seen the Soda, Comic Books, and Fresh Fruit and you've also probably heard about the gambling site and if you've been to a gas station or corner store, or 7-11, you've probably noticed that people are testing the theory that you can pretty much just slap Barack Obama's name on a wet turd and someone will buy it from you.

A German company is testing that theory now too.

Hold On A Second...

So these 10 weeks or so have been really fun and positive, so the blog is going to be undergoing some re-construction/maintenance to better entertain you.

We'll be back soon with a new layout, new video columns, more snappy commentary on pop culture and a few things that some people are either going to love or hate.

Watchmen: Review

It’s difficult to “review” the Watchmen movie.

Considering the source material: a 23 year old comic book that wears the crown of “Greatest Comic Book Story Ever Told” by pretty much any serious comic reader and comic book insider alike, there isn't much room to critique it.
