Baltimore Highlands Album Release Party

So The Baltimore Sun gave a huge shout out to Baltimore rapper Dan Keech, AKA "Height", who recently put out a 12-track album in 12-inch vinyl form this week on Wham City Records called "Baltimore Highlands".

The release party is tomorrow at the Zodiac on Charles Street and admission is just 5 bucks which is cool because you can barely get breakfast for 5 bucks, let alone the chance to party and listen to some new music.

The album, which Wham City Records founder R.M. O'Brien called an "intervention for the rest of the world" in today's Baltimore Sun paper, is available on the Wham City Records site for free, but the free download link will only exist until midnight on Friday January 16, Baltimore time so hurry up and cop it. Or buy it.

The beats are crazy though. The rhymes are ok, I can kinda sorta see what he was going for but even as I think that I know what he's "going for" I'm reminded that Height is supposed to be the type of rapper who isn't necessarily "going for" anything. And that This is supposed to be listened to as a fresh take on Hip Hop by an artist who is completely un-pretentious, but I'll reserve full judgement as I just kinda skimmed the album.

I'll say that so far I'm not blown away. I do like the fact that it's very different from the usual Baltimore Hip Hop that comes for better or worse though. "Different" is always cool in some kinda way although it's hard to believe in this climate that there is anyone alive who isn't at least a little bit pretentious, so who knows.

You can check out Heights Myspace Page and listen to his music and see what all the fuss is about for yourself.
