Remembering – The Used Section At The Sound Garden

Call me a dinosaur but I still buy cds.  I dig them.  I like having physical copies of music in my hand.  Don’t get me wrong; I get stuff digitally too.  But if given a choice between buying an album, single or EP on itunes or on a cd, I’m opting for a cd.

And during my time in Baltimore I fell in love with The Sound Garden.  It’s my Mecca.  It’s my idea of Heaven.  It’s easily one of my favorite places to spend money and it’s not uncommon for me to drop two bills in an afternoon.

No joke; I went to The Sound Garden on 9/11.  On the 9/11.  That’s how much I enjoy going there.

But something happened on my last trip to Baltimore that may have changed everything.

R.I.P. Jack Klugman

Obviously, we at Fish & Spaghetti are saddened by the passing of Jack Klugman.

I’ve been a fan of his for decades and I spent summer afternoons watching The Odd Couple, which helped shape my comic sensibilities.

Oscar Predictions 2012

Is it time for the Oscars already?  This Sunday A-listers and seat-fillers will fill the Kodiak Theatre.  Once there they will sit in their seats offer up faux-applause for their colleagues and compatriots.  It's an annual tradition that's more akin to a Homecoming Court contest than a genuine gauge of talent.  And when it's all said and done, one celebrity triumphs over all the others.

Of course we're talking about the annual Montage of the Dead and who get's the incredibly coveted closing spot.

Crack is wack

Humans are inherently flawed. We all have our shortcomings and demons. In that respect Whitney Houston was no different then any of us. Despite being an immensely talented international superstar and selling over 100 million records, she couldn't shake her addictions...

Remembering - Terriers

FX and I go way back.  I remember back when they got into the "original programing" game.  The Shield was certainly a game changer both in terms of what basic cable could show and how a network branded itself.

I've pretty much given every one of FX's hour dramas a shot.  Some I loved (The Shield, Justified) some I loathed (Dirt) and most I just tolerated (Lights Out, Rescue Me.)  But most left me heartbroken because they ended too soon (The Riches, Thief.)

One year ago yesterday Terriers wrapped up it's first and final season.

Remembering - My Innocence

A little warning - the following post has some graphic images.  If you don't want to have the last vestiges of your childhood ripped from you, I highly suggest that you avoid this post.

You don't want to "read more."  It's shocking and it's something that you'll never forget.  In fact I'm typing this at 3:30 in the morning, because I'm still scarred by the image that I saw a couple hours ago.

Ok, you've been warned.

Remembering - Steve Jobs

It's sort of weird because originally I planned to write something about the iPhone 4S and how I was tempted to get one now that Sprint is going to offer them.  I was going to explore my thoughts and conflicts about the whole thing.

And then I heard Steve Jobs had died.

Give that, I figured I'd reflect on the impact Steve Jobs has had on my life.

Remembering - My Favorite Bowl

I hadn't planned on writing anything today.  Last night, for about a second, I thought how cool it'd be to having something up on the blog for every day this week.  Then I came to my senses.

However just ten minutes ago, the world as I knew it ended.

I broke my favorite bowl.

You'll Always Be Missed

He was one of the best who ever did it and while we all saw his death coming, it didn't make his demise any easier to take. His impact on our world is omnipresent. He had a beautiful voice and an ear for music. And he had such eclectic taste.

So we felt it only right to honor him by showing what is quite possibly his finest hour.

Remembering - Blaze

As the 20th Century came to a close magazine stands were literally littered with magazines devoted to Hip-Hop.  Obviously The Source and XXL were around, but so were Vibe, Rap Pages, ego trip, Rap Sheet.

Man, how times have changed.

But my favorite Hip-Hop magazine from that era was Blaze, and eleven years ago this month, it's final issue came out.

Remembering - Clarence Clemons

This weekend Clarence Clemons passed away due to complications from a stroke he'd suffered earlier in the month.  He was 69 years old.

Best known for being a member of Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band, but he had a solo career and even did some acting.

Today on Fish & Spaghetti we examine his impact.

Remembering - Phil Hartman

Thirteen years ago tomorrow, my world became a darker place.  One of the few things I looked forward to, Phil Hartman making me laugh, was taken away.

Yeah, Thursday May 28th 1998 was a pretty sad day for me because one of the funniest people I knew of and a guy who played a role in three of my favorite shows was dead.

I'll never forget when I heard the news.

Remembering - Blender

Once upon a time, before blogs were as prominent or as powerful, where were things called magazines.  Magazines resided in racks.  And magazine racks were littered with music magazines.

The landscape is much different now. Magazine of all varieties are falling by the wayside.  In fact it was two years ago this month that the final issue of Blender reached my mailbox.

Remembering - The Empire Carpet Man

Tuesday marked the end of an era as Elmer Lynn Hauldren  passed away at age 89.  Hauldren is best known as the Empire Carpet Man, a role he played for decades.  He was also a decorated war veteran and a member of Chordiac Arrest.

Remembering - Oz

It was one of televisions finest hours, served as the launching pad for dozens of careers and most importantly it made sociopaths fun.

Of course we're talking about Oz, which aired it's final episode eight years ago today.

So today we chose not to mourn the loss of a great show, but rather to celebrate it's numerous accomplishments.

Oscar™ "Predictions" 2011

It's that time again; the Oscars are this Sunday.  Every year the Kodak Theatre is packed full of phony industry types and status seekers.  It's all about the size of the name.  Most will only get a smattering of applause, but one lucky soul will reap the loudest and longest applause of the night.

You guess it; we're talking about the annual Montage of the Dead and which dead celebrity earns the coveted closing spot.

And in an equally annual event, we here at Fish & Spaghetti are offering up our complimentary handicapping of the Montage of the Dead.

Remembering - My Phone

Recently I dropped my phone and it broke in half. Like, it's barely operable. I can't see who's calling me, I can't text. I can't even see what time it is. In fact, I don't think it has a purpose other than to frustrate me by reminding me of what it used to be able do.

Oscar™ "Predictions"

Once again the Oscars® are just around the corner. It’s time for Hollywood fakes to fill the Kodak Theatre with half-hearted and hollow applause rather than genuine well wishing. It’s an annual tradition that’s little more than a popularity contest. Despite the all acclaim, hype and the recognition, there’s really only one winner

That’s right, we’re talking about the annual Montage of the Dead and who gets the coveted closing spot.

We at Fish & Spaghetti are offering up our handicapping of the Montage of the Dead free of charge.
