In Defense of The Killing

I'm a huge fan of AMC's original programming.  While I initially began watching Mad Men with my knives sharpened, I fell in love with the show before the pilot was over.  And I was down with Breaking Bad from jump.

From there I sort of dropped the ball.  I watched the first episode of Rubicon, but sadly I can't track any other episodes down.  And I didn't even give Hell on Wheels a shot because of my general boycotting of Common doing anything other than rapping.

But then I saw The Killing was available on Netflix.

A Heap of Ketchup - Glee

So, Friday Jay1 and I were talking about the awesomeness that is Party Down (a show that we will really have to write about at some point) and I mentioned how the show Greek existed in the same tv universe (which, being a fan of both shows, slayed me).

Only Jay1 thought I was talking about Glee. So for a solid minute we were talking, responding and conversing, but we weren't communicating. Once we figured out that we weren't talking about the same show I said; "Yeah, I've been meaning to give Glee a try."

So I did.

A Smidge of Ketchup – United States of Tara

Recently I had a mini Tara-thon that allowed me to wrap up the first season. And now having to seen it in it's entirety I can say that it's a damn fine show. It's really almost enough to make me want to get cable again. It's that good; it makes me want to spend money.

It's really remarkable how much emotion the second half of the season packed on. When Charmaine and Buck bond after Charmaine's "corrective" surgery it's touching. When Marshall attempts to consummate his crush you root for the kid because you're so invested in his fragile awkwardness. Diablo Cody could quite possibly be the shit, because this show has some mighty fine writing.

A Dollop of Ketchup – 24

24 is great television. It might be one of the best "television shows" ever. Seriously. It's pure entertainment. It's doesn’t try to transcend the medium it just tried to entertain. It doesn't pretend to be anything that it's not. It's not art, it's a television show and a damn fine one.

A Side of Ketchup - United States of Tara

I wasn't sure about this show.

First off there was a bit of hype around it, and hype usually turns me off. I mean it's a show that's exec produced by Steven Speilberg, who handpicked Diablo Cody to flesh out an idea he had. Those a couple of big names right there.

Plus the premise seemed a bit out-there. A housewife with multiple personalities? How in the hell could that be pulled off?

A Side of Ketchup: Heroes

I really don't know why I still watch Heroes. Honestly, I can't think of one character that I really care about. I don't really care for the actors or even the writers. But I am a fan of the concept of "super-heroes" and so I watch the bloody program.

Every week I'll devote myself to "catching up" on a different TV show that I've been slacking off on watching. Praise the gods for the interweb and Hulu.com.
