Just A Bunch Of Bowl Shit...

Ok, so I'm sure most of you die hard sports fans are as tired of the propaganda broadcasted and written about Division 1 College Football's lack of a playoff system as I am.

Yes, the fact that either Florida or Oklahoma will be crowned “National Champion” Thursday night, despite Florida's loss to Ole Miss and Oklahoma's loss to the also once beaten Texas is idiotic!

I know, what about USC, previously mentioned Texas, oh yeah, and undefeated Utah, who handily defeated Alabama, the team in which Florida beat to catapult them into the championship game? But what I have realized is that it simply doesn't matter to anyone other than us fans.

First of all, look at what our bowl games have turned into! Currently, there are 30 some odd bowls being played all over the country for about a month’s period of time. Now I don't know about you, but I have absolutely no interest in the Taco Bell Bowl which is being played by two teams that barely ended their seasons at .500 ( I know, as of yet, there is no such game, but you get my drift.). But with each Bowl game, comes thousands of fans that need places to sleep, eat, party, etc. for the days in which they are in town.

This makes millions of dollars for both the cities in which the games are played and for the schools in which the teams represent. Not to mention the fact that during this period of time, us fans are sadly realizing that the season is rather rapidly coming to an end, so we tune in on our flat screens and do our part to further add to the revenue.

Taking this into consideration, what does a seven game playoff system have to offer? Economically, that is? Nothing.

I mean, if college football decided to keep the preliminary bowls the way they are, who would really take them even remotely serious when a true champion would be crowned after the top eight teams went head to head over a three or four week period?

People often say that they prefer college football to pro because of the player's "love for the game" and for the game's "purity." Well the NCAA and BCS are quickly robbing the game of the latter and in doing so, are discrediting one of the last beloved sporting past times that we have. From the beginning, football was about competition and giving everything you had on the field to attain a win. Now both the present day players and us fans are being exploited so these institutions can continue to make huge profits and prosper.

Hmmm, sound familiar?
