Monday Munchies - Häagen-Dazs Limited Edition Coconut Macaroon
Coconut is an interesting proposition. It's something that I've always been enamored with and I'm 99% certain it's because of it's high profile in pop culture.
Seriously. Coconuts were all over Gilligan's Island and they always seemed so cool. Coconuts could also frequently be seen in cartoons like Scooby Doo and The Flintstones. Coconuts are just it.
Häagen-Dazs' Coconut Macaroon sounded like a heavenly flavor.
The idea of coconut ice cream is very enticing, mainly because coconuts are bothersome. They're difficult to get into. In fact coconuts do an amazing job of showing human beings how little we've actually evolved. I'm pretty sure the way we open coconuts is the same way our ancestors did.
So the prospect of cracking open a container of coconut ice cream is an appealing prospect.
The ice cream itself is so very smooth. While it's a sweet flavor, it's not overwhelmingly sweet. It's creamy coconut goodness.
The macaroons give the ice cream some texture and make for a chewy experience. Macaroons aren't for everyone; one of the common complaints I've heard about coconut is that coconut tends to linger as opposed to being broken down. Obviously if that's you, then this flavor isn't for you.
All in all Häagen-Dazs' Coconut Macaroon is a highly addictive flavor. It would be easy to eat an entire container if I lacked self control. It's honestly a flavor that I find difficult to put down and it disappears from it's bowl in moments. While it's not the most nuanced of the new Häagen-Dazs flavors, it's certainly right up with the other stellar entries into the Häagen-Dazs family of flavors.
