Friday Face Off - The Tonight Show vs The Late Show

Photo via http://haveuheard.net
A new era is upon us.  The dark reign of Jay Leno is finally over.  Unfortunately for us at Fission Spaghetti Enterprises that means that we’ve got two late night talk shows* we’re interested in that are scheduled head to head…starting next week.

So you know what that means; the return of the mythical Friday Face-Off.  It’s The Late Show with David Letterman vs The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon.

We know it’s been awhile, we’ll be gentle.

Friday Face-Off - Gus Fring vs Hank Schrader

They've been two of the most riveting characters to watch this season on Breaking Bad.  They're also two of the most diametrically opposed characters on the show; if you're rooting for one that means you're rooting against the other.

We at Fish & Spaghetti are torn; should be be Team Hank or Team Gus?  We figured we'd dust off the ol' Friday Face-Off to help settle things.

What's that, you'd forgotten about the Friday Face-Off? Don't sweat it, we won't take it personally.  Would you care for a shot of Zafiro Anejo?  C'mon, even the bottle's a work of art.

Friday Face-Off - Ryan O'Reily vs Vern Schillinger

They were two of the most memorable and brutal characters from the awesome show Oz. They were also two of the few original characters to make it all the way to the show's final season.

And thanks to some crafty casting they're both pitchmen for rival insurance companies.  Naturally we thought it these two were perfect for the first Friday Face-Off of the year.

Who's better Ryan O'Reily or Vern Schillinger?

I know, I know; you've missed the Friday Face-Off.  But don't worry baby, it's back and it'll be just like old times again.

Friday Face Off: (Don't Believe The Hype Edition) Drake vs. Asher Roth

Don’t believe the hype. Public Enemy told you that years ago. Still, every year we believe it don’t we? Every year some style, or person or album or event is going to come along and save hip hop or something, but does it ever? Not really. So let’s keep that ball of cynicism rolling and take a look at two dudes who have most recently been assigned the task of “saving” hip hop, Drake and Asher Roth.

Let’s examine these two guys in 3 categories to try and figure out which (if either) is actually worthy of the absurd amount of hype surrounding them.

It’s Friday Face Off. Again.

Friday Face-Off - Quo vs 3T

If there's one thing that Michael Jackson loved it's making music. But if there's another thing that Michael Jackson loved it's little boys…as musical artists he could produce. That's why this week's Friday Face-Off came naturally. As part of Michael Madness we're pitting Quo vs 3T in a battle to see which was the best group mentored by Michael..

"No hit" wonders vs "huge in Europe."

Wait, this is your first Friday Face-Off? Don't worry, we'll be gentle.

Friday Face-Off - Nancy Botwin vs Walter White

We here at Fish and Spaghetti are huge fans of the entrepreneurial spirit of America. We love the drive that causes people to go the extra mile for the extra buck. We love hustle and we completely respect those who get their grind on.

That's right; we think that drug dealers are about as American as apple pie.

Friday Face Off: Jim vs. Jenny vs. Jamie...

Ah, "In Living Color".

One of the funniest shows of the last 20 years. It's respected for being creative, courageous, innovative and a breeding ground for future superstars.

We're going to take a look at three of the biggest stars of that show, Jennifer Lopez, Jamie foxx and Jim Carey. We're going to examine their careers (the highs and lows) to see if we can determine who is the best of the "In Living Color" alumni.

What's that smell? Oh, never mind. It's the Friday Face Off...

Friday Face-Off – Joe Budden vs Method Man

As we're sure everyone is aware, former psych patient Joe Budden and veteran actor Method Man are embroiled in some sort of a rap beef. It stems from Vibe.com's asinine attempt to bite Fish & Spaghetti's own April Madness/Spring Cleaning tournament.

Only instead of television domestic help, Vibe decided to focus on emcees and crown the Best Rapper Alive.

Real classy Vibe.com.

Friday Face Off: Star Wars Fanboys vs Trekkies

They're like the Crips and the Bloods of Sci-Fi fandom. Their weapons of choice are light sabers and phasers. Both are the subject or ridicule and the butt of a myriad of jokes. Both are openly mocked and scorned. But now we at Fish & Spaghetti have taken it upon ourselves to determine which fanbase is geekier; Star Wars or Star Trek.

Those goose bumps you feel on your arm? It's just the latest edition of the Friday Face Off. So set your phaser on nerd, the Farce is strong with this one.

Friday Face-Off: Swine Flu vs Bird Flu

Everyone's talking about the Swine Flu, like it's the big shit around the pandemic world. People are scared of it. Schools are being closed. There's talk of actual borders being closed. Women are using it as an excuse for not going out with me. Apparently it's a big deal.

But really, how does the Swine Flu match up against Bird Flu?

Do you smell that? It smells like another Edition of The Friday Face-Off.

Friday Face Off: "April Madness/Spring Cleaning" Edition: The Championship

Look, it's enough already with this bit, right? You’ve been waiting for this moment for weeks. We've examined these people so thoroughly that we wouldn't be surprised if we got an engraved invitation to appear on the next 1980's themed, "I-Love-Nostalgia" type rehash retrospective show on VH1, and it all comes down to this.

Friday Face Off: "April Madness/Spring Cleaning" Edition: "The Final 4"

Welcome Back to our most outlandish installment of Friday Face Off yet. The "April Madness" aka "Spring Cleaning" tournament!

Today we continue our excruciatingly over drawn process to decide who will be in the finals of arguably the internets most intense and well thought out examination of completely meaningless, imaginary nonsense.

We considered every fictional Housekeeper on television and decided on this final 4. This isn’t about whether or not they're funny or beloved charactors or not, it’s about which one of these “people” would we have the most faith in taking care of our crib, personal belongings and possibly children.

In case you missed it, you can find out how we decided on the brackets here, and if you missed the first round, you can find that here.

Ok, let’s get it on.

Friday Face Off: "April Madness/Spring Cleaning" Edition Round 1 (continued)

So last week, in trying to find out who was the "best" TV sitcom housekeeper, we determined that Benson beat out "Charles" for the right to face the top seeded Mr. Belvedere in the first round of the inaugural "April Madness/Spring Cleaning" Tournament.

We've gone through a painfully scientific process to determine the rest of the match ups, and the brackets are all set, so lets get it on!

Friday Face Off: "April Madness/Spring Cleaning" Edition...Round 1

This weeks Friday Face Off was supposed to be a comparison to decide who is the best TV sitcom house keeper, but after literally minutes of debate, the Fish&Spaghetti staff came to the conclusion that there are far too many qualified housekeepers in the world of TV to pick just 2.

We felt that we would be disrespecting at least 6 other worthy competitors so we decided to give them a fighting chance.

With that said, we bring you this: “The Fish&Spaghetti April Madness Tournament™” AKA “Spring Cleaning”!

For the entire month of April we’ll be comparing the best housekeeper until we decide who is the all time best.

Get your bracket ready, here are the first round match ups:

Friday Face Off

At one point there were 2 orange cartoon cats, Heathcliff and Garfield. For some reason Heathcliff has completely vanished whereas his doppelganger “Garfield” (who didn’t even appear until 5 years after Heathcliff appeared) is still making books, Hollywood movies, Valentines Day cards and just generally lingering around as a timeless, pop culture icon of some sort and I can’t figure out why.

You could make the argument that the fact that Garfield has outlasted Heathcliff in that way makes him the defacto winner of their real life “face off”, but lets take a closer look.

Friday Face Off...

This is a new column that I planned on debuting a while ago. The goal was to take similar things and compare and review them head-to-head, every Friday.

The original "Face Off" was going to be between The The Angry Whopper that I reviewed a month ago -VS- The Spicy Baconater, but they discontinued the Baconator so, so much for that.
