Why I Don’t Trust AMC

When I heard that AMC decided to make the pilot episode of their upcoming program Halt and Catch Fire free to watch online ahead of broadcast, I was interested.  I remember when Showtime did the same thing for Homeland before it debuted and it worked pretty well for them.

Plus the fact that Halt and Catch Fire deals with dawn of the PC era, watching it online makes a sort of thematic sense; computers play a huge role in the current television landscape, it would make sense that the debut of a series detailing the rise of PCs would be watched on computers.

I liked the pilot, but I don’t know if I’ll be investing in Halt and Catch Fire.  Let me explain.

Sunday Morning Quarterback – Andy Samberg & St. Vincent

It’s SNL’s season finale, which means a couple things.  First off it means that this awkward growth spurt season is finally over.  We’ve not only witness a transition with new members joining the cast, but we’ve also see Seth Meyers hand off the Weekend Update desk to Colin Jost and Cecily Strong.

But it also means that Saturday Night Live is going to try to end on a high note.  SNL is a tv show after all.  And season finales are often spectacles.  So we have SNL alum Andy Samberg hosting, wish other guest stars pretty much a guarantee.

And if you bet that more former SNL cast members would show up in sketches than new cast members, I can tell you if your bet will pay out.

Wild Pitch Wednesday – Death Wish: The Video Game

I haven’t cared about video game in quite some time.  I’m pretty sure that my interest in video games began to decline when a) cartridges were phased out for discs and b) when my younger cousins got good enough to beat me.  Regardless of how they’re marketed, video games are a young man’s game.

But there are a few things that get me excited about video game.  I’m a sucker for a new Zelda game and I’m always willing to try a new Mario game.  And of course I loved the video game adaptations of both The Warriors and The Godfather.

Of course my dream video game would be Death Wish.

Twitter Tuesday – The Evolution

Wow, it’s hard to believe that it’s been over five years since we at Fission Spaghetti Industries tried out Twitter Tuesday.  No joke!  The first one was 4/21/09, so long ago that not only is the image on that post gone, but I don’t remember what it was.

(Crap! I just realized I could have done Trailer Tuesday.  Oh well, I’m already working on this.)

I will say that despite being on Twitter for over five years, I’m still not completely sure that I’m doing it right.

Monday Munchies - Doritos Jacked Test Flavor: 855

There's a certain thrill to be found in going in blind.  It's that thrill you get when you go to a movie that you know nothing about.  Or you buy an album from a band you've never heard of.  Or when you move to a city you've never even visited.

I've done all of the above so I can tell you first hand, there's a rush involved.   It's something I've even addressed before, when I wrote about seeing Robyn in concert.  Worst case scenario you're going to have a brand new experience.

So..I recently experienced Doritos' latest Test Flavor, 855 (red label).

Monday Munchies - Doritos Jacked Test Flavor: 404

Who doesn't like new things?

Actually now that you mention it, I'm pretty cool with things that aren't new.  I'm a fan of used cds and was shopping at thrift shops before Macklemore...and Ryan Lewis (never forget Ryan Lewis) made it statement on society.

But new can be dope too, which brings us to Doritos Jacked Test Flavor 404 (Orange Bag).

Monday Munchies - Doritos Jacked Test Flavor: 2653

If there's one thing we love at Fission Spaghetti Industries, it's new snack foods.  Any time we see them on the shelf we grab them and immediately try them out.  It's fun and exciting.

Of course the danger with trying something new is that you may not like it.  But c'mon, are you going to let fear run your life?  Are you going to let fear make your decisions for you?  What kind of life is that?

Anyway, we saw the Doritos Test Flavors and we knew we had to try them out.

Sunday Morning Quarterback - Charlize Theron & The Black Keys

As Saturday Night Live’s season nears the end, it’s clear that this is a transition year.  There’s a sprawling cast and a mild lack of direction.  And at this point in the season it’d clear that the show really won’t find it’s footing until it returns in the Fall.

Still, having Charlize Theron hosting SNL is something to look forward to.  She’s incredibly talented and she’s stunningly beautiful.  But the talent is the most important thing.  The question is; what will she bring to the episode?

Let’s find out.

Sunday Morning Quarterback – Andrew Garfield & Coldplay

It can be tricky when the person hosting Saturday Night Live is doing so to promote a movie.  It’s essentially just part of their promotional tour, for something they finished a year ago, so who knows how into it they’ll be?

Additionally, Andrew Garfield is a bit of a mystery.  I’ve only ever seen him in dramatic pieces.  And I’ll be honest; having watched Amazing Spider-Man 2 on Monday and Amazing Spider-Man on Friday night, I’m not the guy’s biggest fan.

So, how’d he do on SNL?
