Friday Face Off: (Don't Believe The Hype Edition) Drake vs. Asher Roth

Don’t believe the hype. Public Enemy told you that years ago. Still, every year we believe it don’t we? Every year some style, or person or album or event is going to come along and save hip hop or something, but does it ever? Not really. So let’s keep that ball of cynicism rolling and take a look at two dudes who have most recently been assigned the task of “saving” hip hop, Drake and Asher Roth.

Let’s examine these two guys in 3 categories to try and figure out which (if either) is actually worthy of the absurd amount of hype surrounding them.

It’s Friday Face Off. Again.

Black (Napolean) Dynamite

Hey, you guys see the trailer for that new movie "Black Dynamite" starring Michael Jai White?! It's been floating around the net for a few months now.

It's a parody of Blaxploitation movies from the 70's, but the way it's filmed it looks just like an old movie from back in the day! It looks mad funny!

You know what? We think that this movie is gonna be one of the funniest movies of the year! You know what else? We're preemptively letting you all know, 3 months in advanced, that if you're not careful in a few months you will be considered a complete douche because you like this movie.

Garfield Minus Garfield

We were crawling around the internets looking for interesting things to discuss or highlight or rip to shreds and we came across this funny thing called Garfield Minus Garfield.

The Fish And Spaghetti Vault...

So the beloved Fish Head, Blogger and all around hilarious internet personality Frankie Nichelle recently made a comment on her blog about how salty she was that she worked on a piece for FishAndSpaghetti.com that ended up on the cutting room floor because it was turned in late.

The rest of the FishAndSpaghetti staff was busy this week and our intern Chet turned in this weeks "Friday Face Off" late, so we're gonna do Frankie a favor and post that piece she worked so hard on all those weeks ago.

Ad Nauseum...

So our Adsense account was shut down for some reason yesterday and it sucks.

Not just because we're so unclear as to why to account was closed but more so because we almost had enough money in that account to get our intern Chet the used PSP we promised him for his birthday. Sorry Chet.

According the the email we recieved from Google, our AdSense account posed a "Significant risk" to Google's AdWords advertisers. Whatever that means.

Here's the full email that we were sent:

You Know Why Death Wish 3 Slays Me?

That's right, it's a slow blog week at Stately Fish & Spaghetti Manor, so we decided to dust off some older bits. And by "we decided to dust off some older bits" what I mean is "I arbitrarily opted to perform CPR on our lagging love for the Death Wish franchise."

Admit it; even you didn't see this one coming.

"...one was ehhh, the other was Illmatic."

I never actually intended to defend Illmatic; I didn't think that I had too. Illmatic is universally praised. But once Pinky Ring fired that opening salvo In This Post Here and got cosigned by Silent Murda, I knew I'd have to dust off the old keyboard.

So before I build up Illmatic, let me first attack Pinky Ring's points.

More Than Meets the Eye.

Transformers went from bad to worse with the latest installment of the films that continue to ruin my fond memories of Saturday morning cartoons.

I thought part one was awful, mainly because the fight scenes looked like close ups of shopping carts being slammed together (if you can't clearly see the robots kicking each other's asses, what's the point?) but luckily they addressed those issues in Transformers 2; the fight scenes are incredible. They're shot wide enough and high enough to clearly see all the action, without looking like you're in the bad seats at a ball game. Megan Fox is still hot as fish grease, but I have no idea why she's in the film other than to run around in slow motion.

Friday Face-Off - Quo vs 3T

If there's one thing that Michael Jackson loved it's making music. But if there's another thing that Michael Jackson loved it's little boys…as musical artists he could produce. That's why this week's Friday Face-Off came naturally. As part of Michael Madness we're pitting Quo vs 3T in a battle to see which was the best group mentored by Michael..

"No hit" wonders vs "huge in Europe."

Wait, this is your first Friday Face-Off? Don't worry, we'll be gentle.

Remembering - BET: Uncut

There's been a lot of death recently. Michael Jackson, Billy Mays, that chick from the poster in the 1970's, TV's drunkest sidekick. And today we at Fish & Spaghetti mourn another passing, the passing of BET: Uncut.

Sure it was a programming block, but it was a programming block that featured some of the worst looking videos, and frankly video hoes, ever. BET: Uncut was a program that didn't care about taste or standards or quality of any kind. And what BET: Uncut offered was hands down the best smut available on free cable in the middle of the night.

Twitter Tuesday - SouljaboyTellEm's Meltdown

So, a funny thing happened in the wee hours of the morning on Thursday; SouljaboyTellEm had a complete meltdown on Twitter. It was hilarious. It was tragic. It was possibly a better train wreck than the BET Awards.

We here at Fish & Spaghetti feel it's our duty to present it for you, in it's entirety. With a pinch of snark

It Was Written > Illmatic

This is one of my favorite barber shop arguments.

Well I guess it’s more like I disagree with the broadly accepted opinion that Illmatic is better then It Was Written- and then everyone yells at me. Yeah that’s more like it.

I always get into trouble with this sort of thing- it's right up there with Ether or Takeover (Ether), Jordan or Kobe (Kobe), Superman vs Flash in a race around the world (I got $20 on Barry Allen) Lola Love or Buffy (I’ll take Toccarra thanks). Who has time for a haircut when serious intellectual pursuits like these are going down?
