Trailer Tuesday - Contagion, Abduction, Killer Elite and More!

Despite the two natural disasters it's been a pretty mellow week. Breaking Bad is still amazing.  Seriously, Hank effing Schrader!  I finally picked up Watch The Throne and Kanye is barely tolerable.

Monday Munchies - Italian Herb & Parmesan Chex Mix

So Baltimore allegedly experienced two minor disasters this week; an earthquake and a hurricane.  The hype around the Hurricane Irene was more blustery than the actual storm and the earthquake was over before most people knew what it was.

Still, those events got us thinking about doing a non-perishable edition of Monday Munchies.  With ice cream out, we opted to give Italian Herb & Cheese Chex Mix a shot.

Back on My Bowl Sh!t

So, as I recounted two weeks ago, I lost something very close to me.  It was a devastating day in my personal history and I day I doubt I'll ever forget.  It's no exaggeration that it's a day that will live in infamy.

But yesterday I decided that I was hit up a Tom Felton double feature of the final Harry Potter and Rise of the Planet of the Apes.  And I decided that I was going to check them out at White Marsh.  Conveniently enough, there's an Ikea in White Marsh...

Five Trends I'd Like To See In Hip-Hop

Hip-Hop, like most genres of music, tends to get caught up in trends.  There was a time when everyone was creating mafia-esque pseudonyms.  In recent years we've seen the rise and death of auto-tune.  We've seen throwbacks become the uniform.  And gold chains are always fashionable.

But there are some things that are barely represented in Hip-Hop that I feel could be huge trends.  Or at the very least, these are five trends that I think would be cool to see happen.

My First Earthquake

So there was an earthquake yesterday, and I totally felt it.

And initially I was totally over the whole earthquake phenomena and how people were reacting to it, but then Jay1 really put things in perspective for me.

But first, let me tell you about my experience.

Trailer Tuesday - Our Idiot Brother, Colombiana and More!

I've been rewatching the last three season of The Shield lately and I'm still in awe that Forest Whitaker was snubbed by the Emmy's for his performance as Jon Kavanaugh.  He stole season five from Vic Mackey.

Apart from that, things have been rather mellow.  Let's get into it, shall we?

Monday Munchies - Best of Baltimore Party

Yeah, I know; we took a week off an you missed us.  But we're back.  And honestly Best of Baltimore is one of the reasons for the lull in posting.

What, you thought that just because Baltimore Magazine snubbed Fish & Spaghetti in their Baltimore's Top Ten Blogs list we'd miss out on the party?  Wrong.  I mean, we were snubbed, but we weren't going to miss out on the party.

It was...an experience.

Remembering - My Favorite Bowl

I hadn't planned on writing anything today.  Last night, for about a second, I thought how cool it'd be to having something up on the blog for every day this week.  Then I came to my senses.

However just ten minutes ago, the world as I knew it ended.

I broke my favorite bowl.

Fleshing Out Jay-Z

I've got Jay-Z's first book Decoded sitting on my bookshelf.  It's next to some graphic novels and a book on screenwriting.  I've yet to finish it.

I flipped through it when I got it and really the book lost me when I read Jay-Z's annotations of his lyrics.  That dude was seriously working overtime trying to make his rhymes deeper than they actually were.

Decoded was a pretty successful attempt to loft Jay-Z in the rarefied air of artistry.  Now he's thought of as a contender for G.O.A.T. and as genuine thoughtful artist.

Ok.

Well, if Jay-Z is such a great writer I'd really like to see him address some actual topics.  I mean, really, anyone can rhyme about money, cash, hoes and girls, girls, girls.  But imagine if he rhymed about something of genuine importance?

You'll Always Be Missed

He was one of the best who ever did it and while we all saw his death coming, it didn't make his demise any easier to take. His impact on our world is omnipresent. He had a beautiful voice and an ear for music. And he had such eclectic taste.

So we felt it only right to honor him by showing what is quite possibly his finest hour.

Trailer Tuesday - The Help, Battleship and More!

Um...Breaking Bad was awesome this week. I still haven't copped Watch The Throne. My BGE bill for last month was like $48 dollars. Mad Men is on Netflix and everyone should watch it.

Well, I think I've killed enough time, let's get into it, shall we?

Watch Wait For The Throne

By the time you read this people will be slathering praise upon Watch The Throne.  People will be calling it an achievement for Kanye West (high praise) and Jay-Z's best album in years (completely believable.)

I will not be one of those people.

In fact it's highly unlikely that I'll be picking up the album before the month is almost over.  Allow me to explain.

Saying Good-Bye To Conan

So, I've just finished watching The Late Show with David Letterman and now I'm watching Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.  It's my late night routine and honestly it's how I keep abreast of current events.

There was a point in time when Conan figured into the mix but a couple of months back I made one of the most difficult decisions that I've ever had to make in my life; I cut Conan out of my viewing schedule.

Trailer Tuesday - Rise of the Planet of the Apes, The Change-Up and More!

Welcome back to Trailer Tuesday, my desperate attempt to write off a gadget as a business expense.

It's hot. I'm sleepy. Let's jump into it.

Monday Munchies - Ben & Jerry's Fair Goodness Cake! (Limited Batch)

I've an interesting relationship with German Chocolate Cake.  When I was a kid I loved it.  Ma Serpico would occasionally make a German Chocolate Cake (usually for my birthday) so it was always a special treat.

But one of those times, I ate entirely too much of it.  So much so that I effectively burned myself out the notion of German Chocolate anything.

So you can imagine my internal conflict when I found out that Ben & Jerry's was releasing the German Chocolate Cake inspired Fair Goodness Cake as a limited edition flavor.  On one hand it's a new Ben & Jerry's flavor; but on the other hand it's German Chocolate.
