Monday Munchies - Ben & Jerry's Snickerdoodle
Back in Vegas my roommate and I were complete ice cream junkies.
Whenever we'd go to the store we'd invariably leave with too much ice cream. In a place called Sin City, ice cream was our vice.
Of course she's still in Vegas and now I'm back in Baltimore. But our love for ice cream knows no boundaries. If I tried a new Ben & Jerry's flavor I'd text her and get her thoughts on it and she'd do the same to me.
So when she texted me a few months back talking about Ben & Jerry's Snickerdoodle, I was confused.
A) I hadn't heard or seen anything about it and,
B) I was pretty sure she was making it up.
I asked for proof and she sent me a picture. I still didn't believe her. I'd always keep my eyes peeled for new B&J flavors and I'd seen nothing about Snickerdoodle. Of course I'd just moved and my local Safeway was sort of lacking when it came to Ben & Jerry's diversity so I couldn't completely discount that the flavor of Snickerdoodle did exist.
Well, I finally got my hands on some...and it's amazing.
According to the container it's "buttery cinnamon ice cream loaded with Snickerdoodle cookies." That's a very accurate assessment.
It's really quite a balanced ice cream, which isn't surprising considering it's only got two flavors. The ice cream is buttery, which I found to be quite the positive. I dug the richness of it and how it lingered.
The cinnamon isn't overpowering, but it's present. Perhaps it's comparing it to B&J's Cinnamon Buns flavor, which was a bit too cinnamon-y for me, but Snickerdoodle has just the right amount of cinnamon for me.
As for the actual Snickerdoodle cookies in the ice cream, they're more of just a bonus; I'd eat a version of this flavor that was sans the cookie chunks.
It's Ben & Jerry's so it's sweet. It's not sickeningly sweet, but it's nowhere near savory.
So despite my former roommate completely building Snickerdoodle up in my head with unreasonable expectations, it actually passed with flying colors. I wasn't disappointed in the least and it now ranks as one of my favorite current flavors.
If you haven't tried this yet, I urge you to track some down and devour it immediately. Like, don't share with anyone. It's that good.

Halfway thru this post, I was going to recommend the "Cinnamon Bun" flavor, but it sounds like it wasn't for you.
ReplyDeleteSnickerdoodle is officially on the grocery list, although it's got some work to do if it has any hope of knocking B&J's Oatmeal Cookie off the top of my list.
Cinnamon Bun was cool, in moderation. I'd have to brace myself for the flavor, but occasionally I was in the mood for it.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'll cosign Oatmeal Cookie; that was the flavor that sold me on wackiness of Ben & Jerry's flavors and made me unafraid to try new ones.
